I just finished these. I started them about a year ago. One of those off and on again projects.
The first three are tanoak, PLANTS Profile for Lithocarpus densiflorus (tanoak) | USDA PLANTS
it's a native here where I live and the limbs are from our property.
4th one is apricot- from a limb at our old place.
5th is apple-from a limb at our old place.
The limbs were 3 to 4 inches in diameter and split length wise.
I went back and forth between power and hand tools. I used diamond needle files/rasps and lots of sand paper.
I used walnut oil for the finish and sanded between each coat.
The shell they are resting on is an abalone. It's legal size and is 7 1/2inches across! My husband got this one years ago. They have to be at least 7 or 7 1/4 inches to be legal. Or else you are busted big time if you get caught!
Hope you like them, because they are done and I'm not doing nothing else to them! LOL But good suggestions and critiques are always welcome for next time!
