  • Ultra Flat Plane Carved Animals With Color

Here's the original Ultra Flat Plane Carved Animals with a wash of color. The color makes them a bit more finished looking.

Yeah, I think the color adds a lot, especially to the giraffe and the elephant, which are my favs. Very cool carving projects. They really show what is meant by "flat plane" carving.

The added colour seems to accent the depth of the cuts, which really brings them to life (IMHO).

Wayne, The Blog is all screwed up. I am not smart enough to figure it out. Will be having son in law try to get the Blog fixed. Thanks for your considerations. Tom

I am thinking flat plane carving takes a lot of discipline. Avoiding the temptation to go back with more cuts. It must also take a lot of forethought, to decide where each cut should be. I am not sure I could restrain myself to it. I admire those who can. I really like your little animals, and the color is just right.

Thanks for the nice comments! These pieces are pro types for some classes of newer carvers. It is my hope that these animals are easy enough for the newer carver to have success, and want to stay with wood carving.

I think you're really onto something there Tom. Clean, simple and beginners can see they don't have to be professional artists to make their finished piece look pretty spiffy.

Very nice colored carvings.Colors add a dimension here. Realy good examples of what "planes" are, and to initiate people into flat plane carving
