  • Five Easy Pieces

Five little guys out for a walk.
Four of them carved from a 1 1/4 inch block.

The guy in the middle is 1 inch square.
If I didn't tell you, would you be aware?

Please let me know what size you think best.
It would settle my mind, and stop this inquest.

I'd sure like to know; for I'm ordering wood.
Is size important to make them look good?

Rodster, they are all fine, but if it were me, I would go with 1-1/4", it is just easier to get the detail in for me.

Nice carvings, Rod. Larger is better for my carvings...but not huge. I'd say 1 1/4 is best.

What size you choose, it really won't matter,
For all of us here are mad as a hatter.

Carve 'em up big or carve 'em up little,
Won't matter to us, not a jot or a tittle.

We all love to see just what you cut out,
Whether a goat with a beard or a pig with a snout.

A smaller guy there, a bigger one here,
What Rodster chips out will bring forth a cheer!

All are well done Rodster. Size is what you like. Like others I would use the larger stick but that has to do with my age. Old Eyes and hands do better with the lager wood.

My vote goes to the 1-1/4" It doesn't seem like a lot but that extra 1/4" really makes the project easier to work with. I'm in the same boat as you only I made the mistake of ordering a dozen pieces of the 1" x 12" practice sticks and I wish I hadn't. I like an 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" much better.

They all look good to me. Beats me how you get so much detail in a piece 1" tall.

Well done, Rod! You obviously have a small sharp knife and very steady hands...
