  • The Elderly Couple

Here is a couple from the village nearby.
Who have come to my door to chat and say 'Hi'.

They're kind of old, and a bit frail to be sure.
The polite word for this, is to say they're mature.

The village where they live is not far away.
I can walk over there in less than a day.

They've brought some snacks on which we will nibble.
His name is Mark and his wife is called Sybil.

After we've visited, they'll be off to the stores.
They've worked in a visit, while doing their chores.

“Where are their masks?” A reader did write.
In response to two carvings I whittled one night.

“I dunno,” I replied. And it caused me to wonder.
If I was guilty of a big Covid blunder.

Did it matter that wooden carvings are not into breathing?
They’re not two days old; they aren’t even teething.

Will the police come and arrest me for inadequate masking?
Is the law so clear, it’s not worth even asking?

These questions are huge. I’ve sought some advice.
“Don’t whittle any humans. You should carve only mice.”

Rodster I'm laughing out loud reading your response to the mask question! Cute couple, loved the story, and then the great mask delema.
