  • Dapper Dan

Here is Dapper Dan and his wife, Mrs. Dan. They are both figures 4" high, carved out of a piece of wood 1.25 by 1.00. I think people like to see male figures matched up with their wives or girlfriends, particularly if they're mounted on a little base. It makes them a little more interesting to look at. I didn't do the base in this instance, but I could easily add one.

Nice work Rod! I’m interested to see what you come up with if you do a base for them.

Hi Tom ... Here is a picture of another older couple, where I constructed a base. I drilled two holes in the base and put in some 1/8" dowels. Then I drilled holes in the bottom of the carvings and slid them onto the dowels. Works quite well. The lil' figures come on and off the dowels easily and can be twisted to point in any direction. Usually I point them so they're talking to one another.

Thank you Rod. That’s a great idea leaving them loose on the dowels. It’s probably the best way for me to get “motion” in my carvings!
