            Thank you all for your assistance and suggestions where to look. A member from my carving club gave me a site to explore to find a pattern for the humpback whale. woodarchivist.com .I did indeed find a pattern for an INTARSIA PROJECT HUMPBACK WHALE. Intarsia is a form of wood inlaying that is similar to marquetry. The start of the practice dates before the seventh century.
            Because this is a flat inlay project and not in the round, I looked for and found a number of pictures to help me transform this into a pattern for a carving in the round. Wish me luck.
