  • Today was a good day for my two favorite hobbies...

..., horology and carving. I finished two carving projects related to clocks. This first is a replacement forearm for one of a pair of angelic trumpeters who grace the top of a tall case clock. This one is headed to the Netherlands where the clock resides. I only had some pictures and measurements to work from, so I hope it is a good match and fit.

The second was a cuckoo bird carved from scratch, expect for the log base. This was done for a friend in Indiana who has an antique cuckoo clock that is missing its cuckoo.

I'm anxious to see photos of the reunions. Hopefully these projects will help restore, preserve and bring their respective clocks closer to the state they were intended when manufactured easily more than 100 years ago.

Man, don't you just hate it when you lose your cuckoo? Nice job on your repairs Gleber, looks like you're a good student of the craft.

Thanks for the compliments. Tinwood - I haven't lost a cuckoo yet... maybe that's why some people say I am just a little?

Nice to combine the two interests, Glebe. I'm in a long range project of carving a topper for an Ansonia "Syria" clock out of white oak...long term because I get tired of carving that oak with palm tools and set it aside, forgetting about it for a while. Time to get back on it!

Dagnabit! What are you waiting for...? Glad to hear you are going to start it again. You sort of inspired me to get back into more carving when you invited me here.
