  • Wooden Knives

Here is a project idea for you whittlers. These knives were carved from basswood - blades and handle from a single piece - plus 1/8" dowel pivots. The blades fold into the handle like a metal pocket knife. They were later detailed with bolsters and scales.

Good looking knives Phil, I would image getting the handles ready for two openings from opposite ends had to be a little tricky keeping the spacing

I did 7 of these for Christmas '17, They were they had a locking mechanism in the when open. The first one was a bit of a puzzler getting the spring & locking figured out. The handles are basswood and the blade is bloodwood.

They were a fun project Bill

Nice work! I've carved countless fixed-blade knives (letter openers). Might have to give a folding knife a try.

Thanks for the inspiration. I want to try one. I remember you did a step by step photo series on this in the past. I lost the link.
                Keep up the good work.

Unfortunately that original tutorial is missing all the photos. Perhaps they can be found.
That project was a single blade folding knife and the pivots were carved from the single piece of wood. I advise using small dowel pivots rather than carving the pivots out of the handle.
