  • Cool Old Man

5 1/2 " x 3.00 " x 2.00 " , Basswood , Acrylic Paint , Antiqued Watco Dark Wax . After Dry I put a lite coat of Feed-n- Wax to Brighten the High Parts of the Beard . Started him last year and wanted to Brush up on using Hand Tools again , so he was elected for the Job. The Glasses are called Doll Glasses . I didn't make them , cheaper to by them than make them and better. Another useless Carving to collect Dust but as always fun to do . For some reason the Wife likes him and I don't have a Beard . Ha,Ha. Merle IMG_0002.JPGIMG_0003.JPGIMG_0004.JPGIMG_0005.JPG

As always, very nice carving Merle! Good use of the wood grain! You could make him seasonal, give him a sun visor or a santa hat. An accessorized carving!

Excellent carving, Merle. The glasses add a nice dignified look to the ole fellow. Did you order the glasses online? If so, where? Really like the way the grain pops out also...love the piece.

Hi, 807 , After he was just about finished I thought about putting some Shades on him . I thought it made him look Cool so put them on m seemed to work out OK . The only thing on the Bare Wood is Poly U and then Watco Wax , that Darkened him to the right Shade . I got the Glasses online from ( FactoryDirectCraft.com ) Springboro , Ohio . They are Doll Glasses . They have different sizes and Styles , these are Smoke Acrylic , Triangle , 2 1/4 " . The Grain in the Basswood surprised me . Thank you always like your input to my Pieces . Thanks, Merle. I make my own glasses from wire but they are a pain and certainly not as fine as the ones you used. Hence the question. I'd rather spend time carving and not making glasses and accessories.

Merle, you sure are multi-talented, that is a really nice face. Are you going to put him on a stick?

As always, your work is spot on, Merle! He does resemble Santa and the sunglasses are a nice touch.

Hi Joe V , he is going on a Wall , don't think he would look good on a Stick . Thanks Joe for your interest. Merle
