Say Rickm, I was on FB with 2 pages for several years, them opened another page with my carvings. Then FB started pestering me to pay them to do me a favor ? And kept it up so I canceled all my pages and they pestered me for another 3 months to come back. now on MeWe. and no ads.

I have posted some carvings in a woodcarvers group on FB. It is literally "your 15 minutes of fame" as your entry is quickly displaced by other postings.

There are two good ones that I like. The first is for those who have been to one of Steve Brown's Renegade Rendezvous classes: https://www.facebook.com/groups/507434119463128/

The second is for caricature carvers: https://www.facebook.com/groups/418485591546954/

Oh, and here's one if you have tools to sell or trade: https://www.facebook.com/groups/353328568136727/

This is exactly why I still come here instead of Facebook. Conversations are still here and can be found months/years later when you remember something that you saw and want to check again. With social media, it can be gone five minutes later.

WCI is still "the" place. Short of a face-to-face visit with another carver, this is it.
There's no local interest in any sort of carving group activity.
In the last 15 years, only a silversmith has ever come to my shop to see what I was doing.

I posted a bunch of carvings and tools on FB. Here today and gone tomorrow.
Just a record of a few things that I've done. I knew 3 local carvers pre-FB and found them on FB.
None is in here. They might post on FB once a month.

I display carvings on face book all the time and have never been pestered to pay, so maybe NoDNA's carvings are superior to mine It's also part of my signature avatar....

If you have a "page" rather than your personal profile, you will get all these notifications from Facebook advertising to "boost" posts and the like. I run the Facebook page for my carving club and my church and it's pretty constant but not too hard to mark as read and ignore.
