From looking at the video he is working in the same place as other woodcarvers, which means you learn the ropes fast plus more. Also noted he might have grown up around other carvers in family or area....which means also the brain is wired to design element of 3 D. I know in some places of the world woodcarvers go on and on for generations, which means all that learning is taught...big difference of figure it out yourself method. This method although is the one I use today....no single usage of one type of tool, although I do not have a chainsaw, I use a band saw and no bandsaw I drill lots and lots of holes. I love his usage although of using the new tech Asian cartoon warriors as subject matter...something to ponder.
