Received a text from a lady who’s grandfather was a blind woodcarver. Although he had passed 11 years ago, his granddaughter had kept his wood box and was ready to let it go. Not wanting to use as kindling, it was offered to me. His box contained mostly all Sugar Pine. What a gem of a find for me. Sugar Pine is hard to find.

Looks like great wood, Dennis. There used to be a full page add for sugar pine in WCI a few years back...

Nice selection of wood. It is great that she past it on. Look forward to seeing what it becomes.

Carved first block of my sugar pine stash. This snowman is 9” x 4” x 4”. Finished in acrylics. Hadn’t carved sugar pine in a long while and soon remembered that one must shave the wood off. Large cut removal tends to chip and splinter... great fun to do....You do not have permission to view this gallery.
