  • "Little" tool kit!

Whenever I'm displaying at a carving show, art festival, or just plain sittin in the park (or anywhere for that matter), I like to whittle. Some times I like to have more than my pocket knife. A V tool or gouge in your pocket can be a problem. The solution has been sittin in the bottom of a drawer for 20 years. The ol' Fanny Pack.

    Hi Tom,

Amazing how often we overlook the obvious. Too bad I gave away mine.

Carving glove, you ask! Would you believe, I'm, I'm, wearing it?

              Naw, I didn't think so...

Thats a little neat way of carrying your knive and a few other tools. You are right on the glove, out in the public they think a carver should be bare handed while carving.

Yep, I have got into the habit of using my little finger as a control when doing detail work on small carvings. I actually guide the blade around with my little finger..Now that I read this it sounds weird!

'Bout thought I was alone in using a bag. I use a "Black-powder" bag, from Tandy leather.

Tom H, the fanny pack is a good idea.

I like my roll pack. Using a Flexcut KN00 4 Pocket Knife Roll, I keep my home-made 1 1/4" knife, a 3mm #11 Power Grip gouge, a Flexcut 1/8" #11 RG gouge with a home-made handle, a palm handled Ashley Iles Gonzales skew, a strop, a permanent marker, a pencil, and a ruler in the 4 pouches.

Depending on what I'm working on, I'll switch the tools from time to time. When I roll it up, I include a Kevlar glove and a terrycloth facecloth (for catching chips) in the center of the roll. When it's all rolled up, it's about 3" in diameter and about 10" long. I keep a couple of small pieces of wood in my pocket.

BTW--the Flexcut KN00 knife roll is about 7-9 dollars depending on where you get it. I saw it at Router Bit World for $7.25.
