  • Good Place that Sharpens Chisels?

It's high time I get back to carving.

My chisels and gouges seem dull though, even when I strop them.

Can anyone recommend a good place to send them to have them sharpened?

Little Shavers has taken down sharpening information from their web site. They posted a notice before Christmas that they would not accept any tools for sharpening until further notice. I check weekly, but have not seen an announcement that they were taking in sharpening work. Hope they do soon, though.

I don't know if this also applies to tools purchased from them also since they sharpen items sold by them for only postage.

While I do most of my own sharpening, sometimes I just get a tool so screwed up that only a pro can salvage it. Dick Belcher of Belcher Carving Supply in Ohio has sharpened my v-tools and other carving tools for 15-18 years. I've also used Rick Ferry, but understand that he may not be doing custom sharpening. Belcher Carving Supply, 6205 U.S. Route 40, Tipp City, OH 45371,
            Phone: (937)845-0346

He charges $2 plus shipping. I usually put $3 each in my package and he bills me for difference, or returns my change.

You can send them down to me or if you are headed this way I can probably do them while you wait and show you the tricks to an edge that cuts. Still remember you and the family coming down to the shop. I bet the little ones aren't little anymore.

                Hi Lillsy,

Cape Forge.com offers that service too. Free for their tools, reasonable for other brands.

I'll also recommend The Old Texas Woodcarvers Shop provides wood carving tools, wood carving books & roughouts.. They have done an excellent job on all my tools.

Thanks for all the responses. With my "babies" both now in school full time, I really need to.....yes....it's a NEED to get back to carving. Once in a while the mood strikes and time allows, but it's too sporatic. I miss talking to adults and am so happy to see names here I met 8 years ago still here carving away and helping others. And how fun to see so many new names!

Goody, I send you a private message. So good to hear from you!
