  • Paint or not to paint

    Hi Folks
I just finished this Aspin wood hummingbird that is really a fan bird then shellacked it 18 coats so we can put it outdoors for the summer. The gypsy flower is Oak wood and the stem Cherry wood and the base Cedar wood. I thought the four different woods complement each other quite well.
My wife wants to paint the flower, I don’t know about that. What do you folks think? All thoughts are welcome and the color she wants is pinkish with a yellow throat. Help please

I don\'t know about paint but a clear finish to give the flower similar lustre but retain the colour difference between the flower and the bird would be nice. I really like the richness of the finish on the bird.

No paint on the bird or base! However, a nice paint job on the flower might make for an interesting contrast.

If your or anyone you know has any photo editing skills, you might try colorizing the flower to get an idea of how it would look.

I think humming birds are attracted to bright colors--reds so my vote is to paint the flower
The carving is tip top by the way

I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'m amazed that the Aspin wood hummingbird turned the color it did, quite striking. But I got to ask, not be critical just curious, is it Aspin or Aspen, just try to increase my knowledge.

But add my $0.02 I like it as you now have it, Good job. . .JoeB.

Nice the color gave it a better contrast and a more finished look.
