  • Best book on carving a Carousel Horse

Have any of you carved a carousel horse? I would like to carve one around 14\" in length but need a good book that has templates for rough cutting the pieces and detailed instructions on the carving. I would consider myself a medium experienced carver so still need help! Can you recommend a good book?

Earl, two I would recommend are Classic Carousel Carving and Carving Carousel Animals both books by H. Leroy Marlow. I believe they are out of print, so look for used. I like these books because they show both sides of the carving. Another book with really nice patterns is Carousel Animal Carving by Bud Ellis & Rhonda Hoeckley. However, these patterns are one sided.

I agree with Sappy. The Marlow books are excellent IF you can find them. I have one that I wouldn\'t part with, and would love to find the other one. The patterns are based on the original Denzel figures from the late 1800\'s and can be made any size you want according to scale.
