  • Père Noël

Every year I carve an ornament for each of the " Girls" in my life around this time. Eventually I will carve 1 each for my wife and both daughters as well as 2 grand daughters. This is the two that I have carved for the Grand Daughters this year. They are both bilingual as their father is of Acadian descent and they have been schooled in a total french immersion school system. So what better ornament than Pere Noel and the Acadian Flag?..
Carved on the corner from basswood;.. 3 1/2" high, and painted with acrylic washes and finished with a coat of Tried and True.

Really nice work, Soggy! Nice idea to incorporate the Acadian flag...I'll have to remember that, as we have ancestors from Acadia, relocated to Louisiana courtesy of British bayonets.

yup!... lots of the folks up here have distant relatives in Louisiana. The Brits didn't get 'em all, ...some hid in the woods, others snuck back after things cooled down (1755)..
today there's quite a large Acadian population here in Atlantic Canada

Tom, the secret to those eyes is having a detail knife with a golf grip handle.....
