I did this for the Helvie Knife carving contest. Started with a blank from Helvie. The handle was about 6" in length and about 1 1/4" x 1 1/2". All basswood knives distributed to the participants had a"dummy" blade on them and were not be sharp. 2 rules: can't modify the blade, can't add to to the knife blank. Had a blast. There were some great entries. The pics of the winners are posted on FB.
