  • Woman With Blanket

Finally I have a carving to post! It has taken months to get here.
Inspired by a photo I found online, juniper wood finished with lemon oil, about 25cm tall.
I hate how her face looks but I don't think I can improve it on this carving, I'll have to do better on the next.

Her shoulders are not square and stiff, she seems relaxed.
Wood carved to look like cloth is a design I've always liked.
The finish brought out the nice colors of the wood.
The first 50 faces will be the hardest!

Steev, I've been carving for 50 years and have never carved anything I was completely satisfied with! There is always something we can improve on. I think that's part of what makes wood carving so much fun...we are constantly learning. Your figure turned out great and you should be proud of it!

Wel,l it's good you're not satisfied, but I think it fits the carving quite nicely. The wood grain fits into the flow of the statue.

I like the figure very much - the way you have used the juniper grain and color. It is the type of figure that is often stylized with minimal facial features. As already stated, we are seldom satisfied with our works. It drives us on the new efforts.

Nice flow to the figure, Steev. I feel for you on your dissatisfaction with the face, I have yet to carve a face that I will allow to survive...but I suppose I'll continue to try!

Her natural stance, shoulders/back, arm, the drape and folds of the blanket are the big eye catchers for me. It has the Wow factor. Great job!

This is exceptional work Steev. It's so tastefully done. The flow of the pattern and grain in the wood work so well together. Juniper is very lovely wood.
