  • More carved furniture

    Hello all,

Ok, lets try this again. I have a new image host...

It is time to announce my next carving projects. In our house we have two spare bedrooms in the lower level, and I would like to build carved beds for these since I love building carved furniture.

I made drawings for both of these beds. The first below is similar to the first bed I built; in Baroque style. It will be the second one that I build.

The first one that I will build will have a nature theme that represents the three general ecological groups that the area that I work on in my job entails; prairie, savanna and forest. The headboard represents the savanna, since it is modeled after bur oak, and the bed rails the prairie and forest since it contains compass plant, prairie fleabane, maple, and dwarf trout lily. Dwarf trout lily is an endangered species and is only found in a few counties in south central Minnesota.

I am nearly done gluing up blanks for this one.

I am looking forward to building more furniture.

Those are some great ornaments. I think the dragon and lion are both keepers. The bed design is truly great can't wait to see it in the round.

Wow! Be fun to see it as it progresses. Do you do them from basswood or have you used other woods as well?

A few. I tend to not keep track of hours, but it took me about a half a month to carve these.
