  • Running bear or bare

Thought I would share a couple of pics of this piece that I carved on a whim. It is carved in Basswood and is about 9" long, the bear that is. After doing the polar bear hauling Sanat I thought I'd do another one a little different.

    Enjoy.

Fantastic. At that speed, I would have turned down the corners of the mouth for just a little more sense of determination.
You carved the reflex of the paws just right. All bears run like that. Makes perfect sense in my head.

I just watched a video of a grizz running down an elk. The elk had no chance with the grizz cruising at 35mph.

Excellent bare bear, Bob. Makes me want to hurry and start on my polar bear; but, I am sitll probably a year from carving it.

Nice bear, or is it bare? You captured the running motion very well.

Polar bears take that stance just before propelling themselves into the water. That is why he is smiling, he sees a seal float in his future.

Nicely done, excellent motion capture. After a minute, I had the feeling he/she is running toward something, rather than away. I think its the blank space in front...

Sometimes the things done on a whim are the best. This one is sure good.
