Bas relief (oak) representing Padré Pio

(Padre Pio is the name of a Capucin brother (1887 - 1968) known to be the first priest and one of the few men to whom the Christian tradition attributes the stigmata of Christ, he was also canonized by the Catholic Church Romane.

We relief carvers look forward to following another of your works. Your photos are especially clear. Tell us about the wood and dimensions. It looks like your initial outlining of his head goes to a depth of 3/4 inch (18mm) or more. The chips show much twist or waves in the wood grain.

Wow, that means this piece of oak is about 20 inches by 18 inches, and 2-3/8 inches thick! But the interesting challenge will be the detail of the Padre's vestments (garment). Will you smooth out the surface of the fabric and incise the pattern?
