Here is how I begin to carve a person. This block of Basswood was sketched on and cut out on the bandsaw, just a rough shape. It will be a second figure to the Viking Warrior piece. We shall see what it turns out to be.

Before they slip me over the standing part of the fore sheet, let them pipe: "Up Spirits" one more time.
Work continues, step by step, one chip at a time. I find it interesting to see what evolves as I carve, making small changes as I go along. I have gone so far with edged tools, and then switch to power carving. Any method to get the results I desire.

I finished the first layer of paint this evening, and just a little touch up to do for tomorrow. I believe he is a suitable match for the Viking Warrior to take on, would be interesting to see which one wins. I do love history and the stories that have yet to be told/discovered.
