Frida was married to the Mexican muralist (and famously Communist) Diega Rivera, whose work I've found always interesting if not always appealing. Frida's work I find bizarre.
Clayton, your bust captures Frida very well. Good work!

Thank you! I kind of wanted to keep her, but that wasn't the deal.

This is a very interesting project that I would not mind doing myself. Frida's face always photographed different from beautiful to very stark, making it very hard to carve. Her belief in the fine arts and her life and disabilities make a very worthy statement..... I believe for myself faces are a really hard subject to get down right...for such an extreme difference from your normal work, you did a good job and it is wonderful to hear your client liked it also..

Well done clayton. If I ever get around to having a go at a face I hope mine comes out as well . Somehow I doubt it. If I decide to have a go at it I will spend quite a bit of time studying the work ED (Nebraska) does as he offers lots of good advice on face studies and is very good at it. Think it might be beyond my reach. Don't think I have quite the mindset to make it work. Best of luck with the next one . Look forward to seeing it.

Thank you! She was very happy with it.
And this is my first carved human face that resembles a real person.

Excellent carving, Clayton, and glad you posted it. I also had to look her up and the image is a great replica of her...I'm sure the art teacher will love it.

Frida Kahlo
My high school art teacher wanted a carved version of Frida Kahlo in return for one of her painted chairs. She is about 11" wide at the shoulders and 10" tall.
