Nice looking and amazing grain they have. Can't wait for the finished version. I'm not a finishing expert but I can see a clear, like BLO or tung oil, as an option. The finish experts should post on this thread...

Good carving, the gain of the wood really adds to the appeal

Thank you all for the encouragement ahaha i find they turned a bit dark i will add color to eyes at least.

New piece spirit and child spirit roughed out in a tank and a quarter of gas or about one hour maybe 1.5 i figure as much to finish it.

I agree about the darkness, Maybe next time some oil finish of some sort to bring the gain out, even more, Just my 2ยข.

Off to a good start on the new ones. For colour you could try an oil based fence stain. That you could build up with extra coats to get the desired depth of colour. Just my $2 cents worth hehe.

Thanks guys i did try BLO it has a deeper luster but i am not fond of waiting days/weeks for it to cure but if in no rush its good to know.
The problem looks like i was not sanding/scratching the burnt wood enough especially around the face the thing is i want to leave the growth marks protruding while going down to unburnt wood i even thought of sand blasting or some big flap sanders or wire bristles need more experimenting.
