  • Re-listed Vase with pyrography

    image_23805.jpg image_23807.jpg image_23872.jpg image_23809.jpg image_23810.jpg image_23811.jpg image_23806.jpg Hi Guys

Somehow the pictures got wiped from this post so I have re- listed it.

This is another piece of the chestnut block with the bad crack up the middle. I had thought that I might be able to turn the damaged section out but it didn't turn out that way as it ran off centre through the block.

Wanted to save the wood as the grain was nice so having turned the vase I used very thin superglue in the cracks as a start as it gets right down into the finest crack. Once dry I then used araldite epoxy glue to fill the cracks leaving just a little space so I could apply some coloured filler to the cracks.

I stained the inside of the vase to help hide the crack repair on the inside and may paint it matt black. This has also highlights the rim of the vase and makes it stand out.

The large crack showing on the outside, I had no way hide it so filled it with black filler and made the crack part of the artwork done with pyrography.

It has had two coates of tru-oil and I think I will leave it at that and just give it a couple of coats of Maxwax.

Pretty happy with the outcome and the grain is showing up nicely so this one is a keeper I think.

I am not able to see the attached pic. I was also not able to see it in your previous post. Reading posts by others I knew they could see it.... thought it was just me.

      Hi Dave
It was as working fine then all of a sudden this happened. Think there is some kind of spam block that is causing the problem. Strange thing is I can see other peoples pictures in their posts but I cant see the ones on this post. Gremlins again!!!! Darn it!!!!

Wonder if they actually weren't up-loaded, Glenn. Proper format? Maybe you have linked to your computer picture and actually not uploaded? Maybe try to email the picture to yourself with another email address and see if it comes through.

          Hi Bill
The strange thing is that they showed as loaded when I went in on edit to have a look. I have no idea what is going on. They were in jpeg format so should have been fine. All a bit of a mystery.

Without getting too far into the weeds, Glenn, your computer might see the images because they were on your computer. Jpeg should be fine. Long ago I had the same problem with uploading images to another forum and finally figured out it was the way I uploaded it. Memory is fading so can't g beyond that.

All the posters responded in a manner that they could see the pic. I can not.

I can see it in the list under "new topics" but not in the post itself.

Same thing happened to my pics. I had to change the way i posted them: from mere attachments into actually inserting them in the page/post (after doing the upload attachements). I used to leave them just on the attachment list and not efectively insert into the post.

Another solution: If it happens again, ask any Moderator to edit the post. When one does, the attachments show up, and all the Moderator has to do is click the appropriate size to insert the photo into the p-ost.
