  • This weekends evening projects - Viking man and pouncing red fox

    Good evening all,

Started a pouncing Red Fox on Thursday evening and this kneeling viking style guy Saturday afternoon. Touchups on the fox are still needed before tung oil and lots of detail planned for the viking still

Will be sure to keep you updated. I'm sure it wont be long, I am completely obsessed with this!

oh and on a side note, PLEASE - Constructive criticism is very much welcome! I am here to learn and hone this skill. Since I am only about a month into the hobby, any tips, tricks, *secrets*, and just a good general direction to head on for a fun journey.

Like Ed I like the fox. I do not think I have see that design before. Your viking has a lot of detail in a small area. They are both well done. I forward to seeing them completed.

Thanks guys! I am planning on fixing up the back paws on the fox before oil. Having difficulty getting a shape that I am happy with so have put that down for a little while I work on the next carving.

Decided to change the viking's pants and am adding tall leather boots. Planning on adding straps and buckles the entire way up the boot. Maybe even have a small dagger strapped to his calf. Any ideas are welcome!

Very good! Do you have experience with sculpting or another art form? You are talented. Did you come up with the design for the fox?
You may want to consider using colored pens to sketch on your wood to avoid all the pencil smudges.

Very nice work and the composition is excellent. Always like viking themes, but have to tip my hat to the fox...great motion.

Thank you Anders, I appreciate the kind words. I don't have experience in sculpting but my post secondary degree was in graphic and packaging design and I work in that industry. I have a few artistic siblings that I use to bounce ideas off of as well so that helps keep ideas flowing. Great idea on the pens! I will definitely try that

Thanks all, another evening of carving tonight and the viking is beginning to get a bit of a personality. Hopefully will work on boots and hair tomorrow!
