1) I wet my carving and keep it damp during painting. The acrylic paint is most generally applied straight out of the bottle not diluting.

2) for my background I use two solutions I mix up.

The first coat is 1 teaspoon of Mixed Tannis (powder 300ml extract), 300ml water

The second coat is ± 1+1/4 pint of white vinegar, & I degreased fine wool pad. I say degreased because some wool pads have oil in them. this solution will need to sit for about a week for the iron acetate to form

3) for antiquing a mixture of 1" burnt umber oil=33ml mineral oil & 66ml BLO.

after a day or so I use Feed-N-Wax over the whole thing.
