  • Some carving projects from Ukraine #2

    Hey, everyone!

Let me share with you some new stuff I made in the last couple of weeks.
    1. Tiny gnome. I took the idea from Woodcarving Illustrated magazine. But I screwed the hat up. It should have been much longer. Nevertheless, I still like it.
    2. Lighthouse. Doug Linker's recent video inspired me to do this project. I like it a lot and want to make the new one bigger.
    3. Caterpillar. I take this idea from Quick Whittles' book. Looking forward to buying a mini hand drill to add tendrils.

Finally ordered two OCC knives and a couple of books with patterns. So, I'm fascinated by doing some new projects.

Outstanding work! I love the caterpillar! Do you have access to a product similar to a dimensional fabric paint! Also do you have access to a product similar to a brush on gloss glaze? The reason I ask is that using these two products is how I make most of the eyes on my carvings. When the fabric paint paint dries it gives a slightly 3-dimensional look to the eyes and when coated with the gloss glaze the eye just pops out at you. I was just trying to picture this process on your caterpillar.

Very nice carvings and I did see Doug's tutorial on the light house. The gnome looks fine and wouldn't have known it was a problem unless you mentioned it.

Eddy, thank you for the piece of advice. Yes, I think I can find some in the local market. Btw, if there is something I can't buy in Ukraine, I still can order it from the US. Despite the war in my country, there are some delivery ways available. Thus, I'm waiting for two OCC knives couple of woodcarving books and want to order linseed oil and feed n wax.

Thank you! That's basically why I'm in this hobby. It's incredibly calming and helps get my head straight.
