  • A small trinket for my buddies birthday

I wanted to make something for my buddy on his birthday.

I've done a couple of these watch style pieces and had the stone already cut and a 1/4 inch bocote skin ready to go.

I tried a hole saw... Huge mistake!
It ripped the wood apart. But I had large enough chunk left from the mishap that I was still able to shape a large enough disc.
I tried wood burning for the second time. I wanted to try to create a depth of border around the ammolite.

I wish I would have taken more time and gotten straighter lines. But I kept over correcting. I was afraid I'd end up with nothing but a burnt disc.

It didn't quite hit the level of craftsmanship that I prefer. But it was a nice quick project for skill development.

Very nice work. I have a couple of belt buckles that were gifted to me, one has a polished stone set in it and the other a piece of deer bone. The work of my two buddies that gave them to me was thoroughly appreciated back then and have since become pleasant memories of our friendship.
