This is the next one in this style of carving. I know ,there are all looking the same. If i don`t do a bunch of the same thing I can`t get the steps I use to get there in my head(C.R.S.). By the way, for those that do not know, I live in north east montana and this morn. it was -25 degrees,-55 with the wind chill. Hard to get going,Brrrrrrrrrrrrr. Very Chilly Vince.

          Re: again

Tony, thanks. I got the bench top a long time ago on sale for $250.00 and had it in my wood shop. I have a set of twin grand babys and had to make a cabinet to put all my things out of reach so I put the top on the cabinet. I made the caving arm sometime back but could not use it on the table I was using(to bouncy). So now I have a solid work surface, a place to put everything, and I can use the bench dogs and the vises.I like the setup a lot.I can also roll in the trailer and take it to shows, classes and demonstrate. I need to make more tool racks.Vince

            northwind,

great work on the woodspirit, and you can have all that cold weather, it is in the 60's here just about the right weather, hope it warms there soon.

              Re: again

Vince, I have a similar set up, same bench top and love it. Been thinking about bringing it into the house.
I added a second knuckle to my carvers arm though, which I like using better then the other holding vices I have.

What type of wood did you use on this fella? and was it dry or still green?

              btw
I had to add that first photo to my favorite woodspirit carving pic's...nice job again.

                Re: again

Tony,it`s a piece of diamond wiilow. still a little green.2.5 to 3" by 12". I don`t have to much trouble with cracking with the diamond willow. I`m going to try some larger pieces as soon as it warms up enough to go out. Thanks again. Vince

                  Re: again

Another nice carving Vince. You have a great technique in getting the hair to look like its blowing in the wind. I didn't realize the size of the carving as I went from right to left. You put a lot of detail in a piece that size. I'm starting on another log tonight...hoping to finish by the weekend. I also like your shop set up.

Vince, he looks great, looks like the north wind really nice color in the wood. Yelp, it's been in the 20's here in the mornings, windy and feels like 10 some mornings. My garage/shop is really cold, so I get out and start the heater and wait till things warm up a bit. LOL

                            Re: again

Thanks for the kind words. My shop is a 8 by 20 cargo trailer full of my wood working tools (table saw, band saw, etc.) and when I fire up the heat it forms condensation then all the machines form rust so I don`t use it unless I really have to.It takes longer to clean off the rust than to do the work.Vince
