Vince, I think the carving is fantastic as I probably said on an ealier post. I question the eyes. Are the pupils extended out? I really can't tell from the pic to well, but that's the way I see them, they sort of look like buttons.

        Re: Details

Yes Cliff thats what it is alright, thats just my way of doing eyes or I should say one way of doing eyes because I certainly did not come up with this idea. I choose to do this because I'm sure you are aware of the fact that I do not like to use paint, so this is just one way of making the iris and pupils show up in a kind of natural way. The only drawback with this method is you REALLY need to be careful when beveling into the center or you'll knock that little button right off. I just take very thin shaving cuts a little bit at a time and kind of snaek up on it. Thanks for asking. Vince

I expect you go through a few sheets of sand paper by how smooth your carving surface turns out. I can see you spent some time on that choker with the undercutting. The leather piece on top looks very good. A tip a carver gave me a while back to help it look more realistic is to use your gouge to take away wood around the centre while leaving more on the outside. What it does is give it a puckered look as the leather piece in the middle of it is pulling it inward. I am still trying to get that look but its something to try if you hadn't plan to do it already. Looks fine as is...its just another way of giving it some more depth.
When are you going to try a female face? You up for the challenge Vince?
