Almost didn't get this project completed. Last Fall when we adopted our dog from the Small Breed rescue of East Tennessee I asked them if they could use some of the dogs that I whittle and I was invited to send them some. This spring following a special event they contacted me and said that if I was up to it they'd love to have some more. They very quickly ran out of the ones that I originally sent and had multiple requests for more. This is a great organization that does outstanding work so I really wanted to help them out.
My goal was to get a dozen carved before I take my Fall vacation but with Gustav, Hanna and now Ike I didn't know if I was going to make it. This morning, with Ike headed in the opposite direction I finally found the time to paint and mount the nametags.
The dogs are whittled from various grades of southern basswood, some better than others. None are the same, depending on the board thickness, knots, grain and soft spots. All of came from a local sawmill about a mile away from my cabin. I finished them with washed acrylics and watered down waterbased matte poly.
Now to get them in a box and in the mail....
