  • Angel Bear

I got the inspiration to carve an angel teddy bear. So I made a sketch on Monday, roughed it out on Tuesday, and finished carving it last night. Then I applied a coat of gesso. Hopefully, I'll be painting it tonight--as soon as I decide what colors to use.

I carved the angel bear in 3/8" basswood. I wanted to get a handle on the details front and back--so, it's more of a relief carving. The front turned out well, the back not so well. Now, I'm carving another one that's 2 1/2" tall in a piece of 7/8" thick aspen. This one will be a pin and it will be carved in the round.

    Hi Bob,

That came out very nicely and I'm impressed by how quickly you did it.

Just finished painting the angel bear. Probably spray it with gloss lacquer tomorrow.

Thanks Ron. The bears go quickly once you have a routine for doing them. And of course, I enjoy doing them, so they go that much faster!

          Hi Bob,

          That's real nice painted.

I guess they also go faster when you're motivated. I read your other post. Congratulations.

                    Re: Angel Bear

Thanks Forrest. I always appreciate a kind word about my work.

As promised, here's a PDF of the patterns. Print the sheet to fit the page and you should end up with a 3" tall, a 2 1/2" tall, and a 2" tall angel bear.

                    Enjoy!
