    Re: save the lion

    That's quite a carving! Depends what your looking for to make any changes. I like the look of it coming out of the wood.

      Re: save the lion

      I redid it. I like it better now. the mane matches the head a little better.
      Still not completely happy with it. I guess its a case of I didnt know what I wanted . This is a piece of cedar that hurricane IKE knocked down. Its for my daughters high school (they are Pope John Lions). We have a funraiser auction and hopefully someone will buy this and donate it back to the school. I cant image anyone putting this in their house. Its pretty big.

          The only problem I saw was the hair is spiked up, to me the hair should drape down on the sides. Here's a lion image I googled to help me explain;
          Overall I think the head looks great.

            Outstanding! I could see it mounted above my fireplace.

              Re: save the lion

              MeINM,

              Good idea. I did round off the ends of the spikes and pointed them downward. I then coated again and like it better. But I plan on detailing a little by undercutting the ends to give them more curl. This coating, stripping, carving, and recoating is getting tiresome. But with this cedar you need to polyurathane it to see how its going to look.

              I will repost the pix when I finally get this finished.

                FInished.
                Well I actually got tired of working on it and the auction is this Saturday so its finished.
                Not happy with it but its big anyway.
                I can see the next one (if I did one) being a lot better. So this is just a learning experience and a chance to raise some money for my daughter's school.

                      wish i could bid on the cat,
                      love it,
