  • St Nichols

Well, I finally finished my project that I have wanted to do for so long, but haven't had time. I always wanted to carve a St. Nicholas since we see "St Nick" so much. The three golden balls are representative of a few traditional stories attributed to him, ie. putting bags of gold in three girls shoes, so their father would have a dowery and they wouldn't be sold. Now I will have to get back to the commisioned work, but it's fun to do something I want to do for a change.Smile St Nicholas - Wood Carving Illustrated Photo Gallery

Lorax, that is one of the best St, Nick carvings I have seen, you've done remarkably well and the painting is absolutely superb, thanks for posting.

Thank YouThanks so much for the kind words. You can also tell I need to spend time on the photography Red Face. It's almost 30 inches, so I had to tape a bunch of butcher paper together to get a background big enough. I am going to have to go by a sheet or something for next time.

Yes, the WOW factor comes in to play. Nicely carved and painted. You may have taken a long time but it paid off. That is a piece anyone would be proud of.

                      Re: St Nichols

Kenny_S - 95% of it was painted in 1 afternoon (thanks to playing hooky)

Catbird- I did it to sell. I usually do comissions, but I have wanted to do a St Nicholas for a long time. So if it doesn't sell he may be around awhile. Ironically, I dont have very many of my carvings - even before I started working for tool money, oops I mean pay, I used to give most of my carvings as gifts.

                      Thanks
