  • A try at a Snake cane

Now this is a bit different from my other snake projects.
I chose to sit the snake on the branch instead of turning the branch into a snake. I am carving a Turtle on the side. I was told the snake and the turtle is something mytical for Native people.
The wood is Maple 34 in.long, so far 1 coat of poly. on the cane and Minwax walnut stain on the snake and a coat of poly. also.
I will put more pics. (angle) on my blog. I hope you enjoy it.

I'm not sure about the snake but the Turtle represents Mother Earth to native peoples.

Thanks TreeWizard, I knew about the turtle but a friend from KY. told me about some legend about the snake and the turtle, nothing to do with the turtle and the hare..lol...He can't find it for some reason and I "google it" and I am still reading on all kinds of awesome legends..but none so far about the snake and the turtle...
Might just be some urban city legend...lol

I really like the stick and the way you did the snake. The turtle is good too. Fine work!

That's a nice piece of work Guy, and a very unique design. I looked at the other pics on your site to try to see some of the detail and was pleased to learn that I inspired you to do it. I think I see nine head plates on the head and a rattle on the tail. That would make it one of the pygmy rattlesnakes. Good job.
