  • "Castle Willowood"

At last weeks carving club, a friend arrived and set a really funky, pithy, piece of decayed willow in front of me. 'Lets see what you can do with this piece of #@*% wood'. They sometimes scorn me in my choice of wood in my projects. It quickly became a challenge. It carved like bark and was very crumbly in places. It is nearly ready for a finish. It measures 2 1/2 x 3 x 6". The trees are from cottonwood bark They are an accessory I sometimes include with my small bark houses. "Castle Willowood" was fun to carve and I learned an important lesson; never to walk past a downed willow tree without a second look.
