    Re: Maggie May

Rob Roy...named after the famous highway man? That is neat! Curious is a good name for a boat too. I hear that teak is near impossible to find now so restoring the boat must be more than hard work..... I imagine a good deal of luck in finding wood, helps too. My husband just looked at some used tools and the man had some teak for sale too. I talked him out of buying the teak because unless you have a specific use for it, you don't really need it sitting around. I thought the guy wanted too much for what wood he had there. Some walnut mixed in and he wanted $200 for a hand full of 8 foot boards. I guess I am spoiled. I am used to getting good wood a lot cheaper than that and since I don't carve teak, I don't want it..... Thank you again for your very kind comments on my carving. Miss Maggie is only about 16 inches long so you could do that with your mahogany.... would you leave her natural then? I can't wrap my head around painting mahogany...now that's nice wood! I will volunteer this much toward your future project....if I had it to do over again, I would make her all one piece instead of carving the arms separate. I think they would have turned out better and more natural looking.

Hi Sharon, Cheers to you too! Thank you for your comments. I hope you get to carve again soon. Not carving will drive a girl to drink....

Thank you for the encouraging words, Mark.

Sharon, that New Castle brown ale....is that only found in certain parts of the country? It sounds like something my husband would like. He loves Yuengling which is a pretty dark beer. I don't recall seeing it available around here....

                Re: Maggie May

I know it's on the other side of the state, but the ABC store in Cocoa Beach carries it. Personally, I prefer the India Pale Ale for most beer drinking. NCB is good with a steak, though.

Nice work on the figurehead! I've been following this, although I haven't commented, and it's been great to follow your progress.

Thanks for the info on the NCB Claude, and for your kind comments too.
We have an ABC right across the highway from us so I will inquire there. If it's available in Cocoa, it can be had on our side too... My husband would like to try it, I am sure. As for me, I am more of a "Jamison's 12 yr old Irish whiskey/Jack Daniel's" kind of a girl. I never developed a taste for beer or wine. I feel like a complete heathen sometimes when everyone else is ordering white wine.....sigh.
Thanks again for your comments and the info.

Susie, your mermaid turned out marvelous. I am very impressed with your rendition of a sailors superstition, the mermaid. The figurehead would make the bow of any self respecting vessel look proud, you have captured her essence to a wonderful degree. Thanks for sharing her with us.

wow, thanks so much........... I hope she lives up to expectations after she is painted and antiqued. I won't get the chance to paint her for about 2 weeks but am anxious to get going on it.
