      Re: arabian mare

Doris I am sure that the Mare will be a real Black Beauty!

In carving my horses I googled Arabian horse photos and have 100s of reference photos of arabians to work from- I also googled individual parts of the horse for close up= for example Horse eye or horse ear.

The hardest part for me was figuring the appropriate dimensions for for the horse.

On another post someone posted the following guide lines-

the head length from the poll to point of nose is very close to
      the
      -width of shoulders
      - length of neck-
      -depth of barrel--
      -length of upper leg--
-- arabs tend to have a short head and a dish face-- but the dimensions are still the same--

I also have a pattern that I purchased from Ian Norbury that is helpful
      see below

          Re: arabian mare

Nice project, Doris! When you finish it, I have a suggestion for your next one: Carve a Centaur - with your experience carving human figures, and the experience of carving the Arabian, it's the logical next step!

                Re: arabian mare

doris-- great looking- im sure your finished project will be as ideal as the clay model-- you cannot have to much reference material-- dont over look the chance to view the real thing--you will get expressions and ideas there that never cross over in a picture- eye positon on the head is important to make it really come to life as is the ear position.

I would be happy to be able to do the clay model itself.................

Hi Doris, nice start on the model and terrific attitude of the horse. Looking forward to following along with both your thread and blog. Hey just realized you've started the wood portion and it's looking like you have a good handle on your piece.

There's no doubt she will be everything you have in mind. If anyone can make a vision reality, you can.
