  • Time again for the "what's on your work bench" thread

    HI there,

This is one of my favorite threads, that gets really pumped up with responces and then fades away.
I want to start it again to see what folks are working on. Some of these projects never come to the surface otherwise, and we get to see how much diversity is going on.

I'll start, because I'm all over the place. I built a teaching studio, and kind of took advantage of all of the work tables while I'm between classes...

I have recently committed myself to "Finishing" a lot of things that have been lying around here, so some of these are repeats from the archives, but currently being worked on.

    My current projects:

Thats whats on my work bench.Painting all the holes in this stone tiles, kinda hard when you are painting straight lines at times but Ive done if before. I totally hate projects like this but my wifes loves the money! I get 10% and guess who gets the 90% ??

Should be done in a wk. Why she likes her 90% as fast as I can get it for her! LOL Got to love her!!

Geez Forest! The painting on travertine should be incredible. Please post a picture when you're done and when it is installed. Novel idea to paint it. Thanks for the comment on mine..

I have a relief carving of a sparrow, two more tie tacks, a tear drop pendant, the start of a bottle stopper, a huge green man relief plaque that has been stalled for several months now, and a board sanded and graphed out for making a welcome chip carved sign.

I have a Texas longhorn head, a polar bear cutout, and Simon's little penguin all in various stages of completion. I've also cut blanks for several tutorial projects that I haven't yet had an opportunity to get to. And, of course, the ongoing task of carving three dozen little wizard ornaments. Yeah, I have too many carving projects going on, not to mention that knife blade I keep meaning to re-shape. . .

I have a Shipley Bear I need to cut out the blank and start, about 6 more Santa's to finish and paint for the misses, a turtle, an elephant to paint. I have a Cottonwood Gnome Home to start, a baseball on a stand, and a couple of hands in various positions. So I have my work cut out for me for a while, luckaly none of them has a deadline. I forgot I have the shelf dragon in the last isse of WCI to cut out and start for my little girls room.

I love hearing about all the different projects.....but I want to see pictures in progress too. Please post pictures. It is so helpful to see stages of completion.

Yes, Doris, the acanthus leaf pattern I'm working on is a 2 or 3 year old project that I'm very confused with, but determined to finish even if it goes badly wrong!

Bench! What bench? I think it's under all that crap that's piled on top of it. I guess I'll have to find the bench before I can give the answer to the question.

I just started a face of a Rabbi, It's the first time I tried to carve a face using only a knife. No gouges or V tool, doing the eye sockets was a real challenge.

Some good looking projects folks are working on! I don't envy Forrest! I am ready to start a new project, a bottle stopper and also have 2 cowboys cut out. Finished two walnut and one goncalo alves bases for bottle stoppers.
