Re: Good reflexes so hanging on
Prairie John, I make eyeglasses, plant stems, stethescopes, and just about anything else. Thanks so much for your comments.
Keoma, Thanks for your praise. This is the second in the Hangin On For Christmas series I am designing. Artists for hire is the third in the series and Santa hanging on the candy cane is the first.
Merle, Wow, you sure know how to make a girl's head swell. (Ok old lady!) The one in progress is the Painter/Artist for hire. My first female in the series.
Thanks so much for all your comments.

Wanda,
Hmmm, nice ideas for a series of carvings. And a great method for making small accessories. That'd work for eyeglasses on a caricature for sure.Good job.

Re: Good reflexes so hanging on
Thanks Wanda, for the additional info! Not sure if my choice would be ice tea or not, but that part of the process is probably adjustable! Have fun and I'm looking forward to your next one. Maybe you could name him Chad and have a "hanging chad".

Re: Good reflexes so hanging on
Dan, if you remember to hold one end and coat the wire from there down, it's pretty easy. I spray it to make sure it is set and then stick the exposed wire in something to let it cool. After a drink of ice tea or too, I can usually start the other end without getting stuck.
I keep my baking soda in a plastic butter type tub. I pour a little onto the lid and work from there. Any lumps that fall into the soda can be saved and used to "build" on for larger items.

Re: Good reflexes so hanging on
Thanks Wanda, for the great description! That certainly answers it, and is a technique well worth remembering. Think I'll use thin rubber gloves if I try it, and keep the acetone ready as well!

Re: Good reflexes so hanging on
Curt, you did have a great thought. I think I will find some fan light pull chain and paint it to resemble garland then it can hang from the tree or a light cord.
Cannuck, I am glad you liked it. Unique is what I was striving for. In today's uncertain economy, I wanted to stand out for my Christmas decoration and beyond.

Re: Good reflexes so hanging on
Dan, Thanks for the comment. You must have posted while I was posting. The stethescope was a trick. I was going to carve it on his chest but one Ooops later, I had to rethink it. The stethescope is made from stainless steel safety wire, baking soda and super glue. You sparingly apply super glue to the wire and dip it into baking soda. Turn it over and do the back side. Then lay the wire end on top of a pile of baking soda and drip super glue on it and roll until a ball is formed on wire. MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE ENOUGH WIRE ON END TO ATTACH INTO HOLE IN EAR. Spray with excellerator or let dry thoroughly. Go to other end and lay or hold just above baking soda and drip super glue on wire. coat with soda and slighly mash down to form a flat circle. Drip a small drop on top and cver with soda. Again, let dry or spray excellorater on it.
WARNING. WIRE CAN GET HOT WITH MORE ADDITION OF GLUE. ALWAYS HAVE ACETONE OR NAIL POLISH REMOVER CLOSE BY FOR OOOOOPS. Ask me why!
Hope that answers it.

Re: Good reflexes so hanging on
Wanda - He looks great! How did you do the stethescope? Curt came up with a great thought. Bet a lot of people would like this idea for a pull chain on their ceiling fan or light. That's not all that easy a carving. You have great body movement with the whole right side of his body stretched upward. Thanks for sharing!
