Marine Corps Grips For The 1911

Now that I have been blessed with the help of various members in learning how to do inlay work, I'm moving to a new project. I've always been a fan of the 1911 45 semi-automatic and I making a pair of Red Oak Grips with the Marine Corps emblem inlaid. Actually, the inlay is my original tie clasp. My grips are patterned after the Colt 1911 plastic grip, however, mine are a bit thicker as I have large hands. The grips are from one cut of Red Oak which gives me a matched, grain pattern of both grips. I'll re-post when the project is done. I'm using a PT 45 as the back-drop to give you an ideal of how the grips will look sort of, kind of. My Thanks to the membership for teaching me the things I needed to know and I'll work on my spelling, I've even fooled spell-check a couple of times..

Thanks Gene, I'm working it. I had a former Marine bud suggest a bloody mother of pearl inlaid bayonet? That isn't quite the image I want to present. BTW: I was born in TX, kileen & lived in Copperas Cove, El Paso, Abilene, Albany & Odessa.

Thanks for the comment Allen. Hmmm, AGoodKnife needs AGoodGrip or, perhaps a Good K-bar needs a good grip. See, you got me thinking ahead of myself, I'm going to be a busy guy. So, you are a Shelf-Elf maker, that is cool.

That's going to look great on that pistol,the one I carried in the service rattled like a marble in a can when I pointed it at someone.

Thanks for the comments, I've been sharing the proto with my 3/4 Marine site membership and all the response has been great. Hey Dan, you and I were in the Corps at the same time, 65-68, you must have made it to Nam during that time. I was a Battalion Scout with 3/4 and was on Op Hastings July 17,18,19, 1966, extended and went to Phu Bai with the PMO, safe duty! In fact, I saile to OKi, then to Nam on an old Victory ship called the USS Weigle, really.

Curt, you must have been carrying my old 45, was the right side grip shattered, ha, ha S/F.
