  • "I" a Robot

Trying to get a couple more done for Christmas. This little Robot should grace the desk of my Sister, an automotive designer, power-train group. With my luck, who knows where it'll end up. I also have a friend whom collects robots. He is carved from basswood, stands 8" tall x 3" x 3", with movable arms and possibly a movable head. A little more sanding, some detail and He'll be ready for a finish. May try and mix a silver stain, or maybe a light silver wash. What do you guys and gals think? Don't really want to paint him, looks to plastic.
Anyway, I'll post a finished pic when complete.

    Thanks,

    Dennis

Hi Dennis, great looking robot. He'll make a great gift. I think a silver stain would look great. Maybe adding something to accent the joins and such.
    Great carving, thanks for sharing.

That is hecka cute! I think silver would be good, but then I think of all those different colored robots in the animated movies.Light green with contrasting details? Maybe just stick with silver.

Here's a couple pics of the Robot, sanded and some detail. I'm ready to finish him, but my 24 hr. rule applies.

Will post the finished pics when ever it's done.

        Thanx,

        Dennis

I want him. I think red and or silver would be good color choice. Do you think he might hold a pencil?..being on the desk and all..
I have a few metal robots, they are a fun collectible.

                  Re: "I" a Robot

In answer to your questions, Yes, He is of my own design. I tend NOT to use patterns of other peoples work. I find it difficult for me to sell a piece, knowing the design and or concept belongs to others. My work sells, I believe, due to its' originally of design. I mostly make a sketch directly on the blank and have a drawing for reference, of the intended finished look. But that's me, I don't use patterns but many of my accomplished carving friends do, with amazing result. Yes he does hold a pencil, I have been using him to hold my glasses.

Thanks for your interest, will post more pics when completed.

Yikes! IMHO doing the "moving" part must be as difficult as the actual carving. That's very good work and very interesting.
