  • EmBARKing on a little home project. . . . .

    My work has been accepted for a local street fair, that is Very hard to get into. So, I've embarked upon a new project, mainly little bark houses. Not everyone has the money now days to purchase an original piece wood carving. So I've developed a few low end pieces for sale. They usually pay for the entry fees/ show expenses. Here's a few pics;

I've already sold some (gone/no pics). Carved during a citywide garage sale last weekend and sold a few.

Dennis, I bet they sell really well because you did such a nice job on them. Hope you make lots of money and have a great time at the street fair!

Hi Dennis, your little houses are very well done and you should sell them all without any trouble. Have a good fair. Merle

            Hi Dennis,
Great job on the little houses! Very nice! I agree, you won't have any problem selling them. Good luck and thanks for sharing.

              Great houses, Dennis!

A couple of questions I hope you won't mind answering. First of all, how big are these houses? Second, what price range do you consider "low end"?

I ask because we will be staying at a campground where the owner has offered to let me try to sell a few things while we are here (all summer). They have what seems like an unlimited amount of bark available and I'd like to try my hand at some houses and will offer them for sale but I have no idea what the "going rate" is. Since I'm new at this bark carving I don't want to overprice things while I don't want to give them away for $3 either. Hope that makes sense.

              Thanks,
              Robert

                Robert,
I consider low end pricing at $20/25 dollars. I have a series of butterflies, small wood spirits and little bark houses available in this range. I also have these items in larger more detailed versions that increase in price according to size. I do the small houses in groups averaging an hour each. Material costs are minimum so you can't spend a lot of time on them but you can't skimp on quality ether. You'd be surprised how well they hold up to impulse buying. Many have also opted for a larger piece as well.

The size of these little houses are 3- 4" tall x 1.5-2.5" wide. x 1-1.5" thick.

                  Dennis,
Thank you, thank you, thank you for such a quick and concise reply. It IS most definitely appreciated. I'll have to try my hand at some of these (I just tried a couple of wood spirits in bark) and maybe....just maybe....I can make enough to take the wife to dinner.

                  Thanks again,
                  Robert

I'm glad I checked out your thread. These are awesome little houses. The detail is so nice and the lines so crisp.

Dennis, those litle cuties are great! You always do wonderful work, anyway, and you should have no trouble selling these, as well. I think it's a wonderful idea, in lieu of the economy the way it is.....you should do well. Bonnie

                              Dennis,

Great job on all - I especially like the one with the frosting of snow.

Best of luck on your sales.
