  • Recent Spoon

Hadn't posted a spoon in a while, so I thought I'd post one I recently finished. It's about 12" long, of walnut. Critique welcome!

OK LBlake, fes up! How long do you have to soak that wood to be able to braid it like that?

        Just kiddin! Just Kiddin!

        Exceptional!

I really like the Celtic braids that have 4 sides to them. I can't tell to good from the pic, does your spoon have that or is the braid round? Either way, it is really nice looking in walnut.

            Thanks, all!
Brent, if you mean the cross-section of each individual "rope", this one happens to be squared. Here's a picture where you can see better...

That's certainly one of the prettiest Love Spoons I've ever seen! You did an amazing job on carving it and I really like the crisp, clean details... Again, nice job, very nice indeed! Thanks for sharing it with us...

Nice spoon, Laura! I think the square cross-section is a great idea. Did you use a saw to cut out the open areas?

                        Again, thanks!
Yes, I do use a scroll or fret saw. I'm not that good at sawing, so I do end up carving quite a bit where I've sawed to make the shapes right. I really am amazed by those people who have the patience to carve away all that waste wood. Maybe as I get better at carving, or if I start using softer woods, I might abandon the saw.
