Thanks Kris, the timber I used was some Yellow Birch I picked up after someone had turfed it onto the sidewalk. I absolutely adore working with that timber. It has wonderful colour and grain and texture, sands nicely, polishes beautifully and cracks minimally. By far the best timber I have ever worked with.

Thanks Dan, I think you are spot on about it being in a carver's nature to want to excel, to do better and better with each piece, to push boundaries and skill levels. Bottom line though...a happy customer.

    Hi Joe,
Your little bear turned out great! I read your other thread about being too critical, I think thats just part of being a carver, we never seem to be completely happy with our carvings. Congrats on your commision. Keep it up when you have the time my friend.
    Dan

Too right Gene, you can't stop this bloke from carving for ever. I know I will get time somewhere along the line. Hey, I will even have a big ole factory at my disposal instaed of outside in the yard freezing my proverbials off. LOL

A big thank-you to all for the kind comments and encouragement. I really appreciate it. Here are some updates on 'Lost Bear'. Almost over, just a couple more coats of danish oil, a touch of white to the eyes, and a final buff with the beeswax polish. Should have him finished by tomorrow.
