  • Indian Girl WIP

Because it's been quite a while ago that I began this carving I decided to make a new thread. I'm including a link to the original thread if you would like to see the very beginning. http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.co...an-girl-18450/

    Size: 14" Tall
    Medium: Colorado Aspen

This carving has been on my workbench for about two years. I've worked on it off and on as my carving knowledge has grown and is still growing. lol

I've been trying to finish begun carvings- clearing the way for new ones and I need the vise this one sets on.

Still have lots to do on this one, but I have a renewed interest in getting it finished. I'm anxious to see what the beautiful aspen wood will look like when I put the clear finish on. I do plan to woodburn the hair and fur wrap that covers the braids. More work is needed on the face and in particular the mouth and chin area. Also have to complete the hands and handbag she is holding. I haven't had the opportunity to carve realistic hands which will be a challenge.

    Well, all for now,
    Kathy

        Hi Kathy,

Beautiful carving!! Great Detail!!! Someday I want to carve a Native American girl - I can't remember her name but she was a saint in northern Michigan.

Great Job - Thanks for sharing!!

Good for you. It's always nice to finish a piece. That little girl will be hopping off of the stand soon from the sounds of it. Carry on.

Thank you, all for your interest and wonderful comments. I have set a goal for myself and that is to finish this carving before the year is out.

I think I will have to re-title this carving as she was a girl when I began it, but now looks more like a woman. So she will have another name when completed. lol

I face kidney surgery next week which will set be back a little, but will not detour my will.
My creative juices are are heighten and all I want to do is carve. Sometimes you have to back away to regain your interest. Guess it's kinds of that creative rut thingy. Renewed challenges can be a good rut braker.

                Thank you, all again
                Kathy

Thank you, everyone for taking the time to look at and comment on my carving. You all are so good for my ego. Yes, Patrick I will finish her this year! She is the largest full figure carving I have done.
Thank you, everyone too for the well wishes for surgery.
                          Hugs,

I appreciate your comment about my carving and well wishes. For the past several days I have been working on the carving and she is coming along nicely. Will upload an update before September 28, then all work will stop until I recover.
                              Thanks again,
                              Kathy
