      Wow Deborah! What a fantastic carving. Love the fluidness of the tree into the little house...looks like the house just grew out of the roots of that old tree...Nice execution indeed! Thanks for sharing and safe carving to you.

                Thanks all for the kind comments. I kind of like how it turned out.

                Merle; you know when you tell your kids to stop fooling around in class and pay attention? Well, I can't tell mine that anymore, I know where they get it. There were three of us that joked and fooled around the whole time, but still managed to get work done. If you have a chance take a course with Rick, he is great, very down to earth and a very good teacher.

                        Hey Deborah, you did good! I keep looking at bark carving and your piece pushed me over the top. I'm going to get some bark and get going on it. Any tips you can post will be appreciated by us. Very nice carving! Dick

                              Thanks everyone for the kind words.

                              Dick;
                              The tree house is done by gluing two pieces together and working "in the round". Rick has a DVD out detailing how to do it. The main idea is to get the two pieces backs perfectly flat to align when gluing together. You glue a piece of cardboard between them so you can separate them to carve out the inner part of the house and then glue them back together and do the detail work. Works out pretty quickly considering what you end up with. Try it - you'll like it.
