  • Cowboy, Indian, Santa

Here are some things I'm working on. The Indian letter openers are done, L- Indian is Mahogany, R- is Peach. First time I've done anything in Peach wood. The wood was green & really gums up the bandsaw blade. It's also very hard, seems it got harder by the minute. I like the grain though. Also the cowboy is going to hold a branding iron, working on that now. I think the eyes are a little big & ears a little small...oh well, I still like him. (Myron's pattern).
Also a Santa I am working on. I have one in my gallery, but this one will be more rustic & will have 3 signs linked by twine, hanging from the arm. I think this will be going to a friends as we get closer to Christmas, might put their names on the sign.

Very nice work. Looking forward to seeing your Santa when it's finished. I like the sign holder idea.

Thanks guys. Terry,I'll try to remember to post the finished Santa. Bart, the Mahogany (sp?) opener was a quick project at a recent carving gathering. The instructor had purchased a plastic one and thought it would make a nice quick project for a group. ..which it did. I liked the vintage look of it, and it was interesting to do the second one in Peach.

                Kris,
I like all four carvings especially the cowboy, will you work him into a little scene with his branding iron? I also have to ask, what has Santa so upset ? looks like he is giving someone their marching orders, absolutely love his expression. Thanks for sharing.
                Regards

Thanks Joe, Alex, & Herb - appreciate your comments. Bill, I don't know if I'm up for carving a 4 legged critter suitable for branding, but perhaps a base is in order. Not sure about Santa's attitude, we'll see what happens when he gets eyes and some paint. Thanks for the comments. Happy carving to you all.

Very Nice work Kris! I haven't tried peach, but I know apple and apricot get harder as they dry, all the fruit woods. They sure hold the detail good though.
